About the Artist:

Giselle Gautreau is a painter who works primarily in oils and encaustic painting. Her work reflects inspiration in nature and the landscape. 

Giselle holds a BFA in Painting from Maine College of Art.  She earned her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University.  

Giselle began her work in encaustic painting almost 10 years ago at Wax Works West, a California school of the encaustic arts. She has incorporated encaustic into her own painting practice and has been teaching workshops out of her studio to share the unique aspects of this ancient medium.  

Giselle's paintings are in many private and corporate collections.  Giselle has received awards for her work, including a Professional Artist Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Virginia Commission for the Arts as well as an Achievement in the Arts Award from the National League of American Pen Women.  Giselle currently works and teaches at McGuffey Art Center in downtown Charlottesville,Virginia where she is a resident artist.
